Bourbon Banana Dessert Sauce
Servings: 1 cup
Ingredients
- 3 Very ripe bananas
- 1/4 cup Brown sugar
- 2-3 tbsp Bourbon (depending on how strong you want the bourbon flavor)
- 1 pinch Salt
Instructions
- Microwave the 3 bananas for 3 minutes. This pulls the liquid from the banana. This will not work with bananas that are not very ripe.
- Strain the bananas. Depending on how ripe your bananas are, you should get around 1/2-3/4 cup of liquid.
- Add the banana liquid, bourbon, and brown sugar to a small heavy-bottom pot on the stove.
- Stir over low medium heat where it stays at a simmer. Cook until it is reduced and thickened. *You will know when its ready when you coat the back of a spoon with the sauce and run your finger through it and it stays in place and does not run.* This takes up to 10 minutes, depending on your heat.
- Add back the bananas and use an immersion blender to blend until smooth. You don't have to use the immersion blender if you want chunkier bananas. It will slightly thicken as it cools.
- This can be used in dessert recipes, as a topping, and even in coffee beverages. It is rich and smooth and packs so much flavor! Try it as a topping on our Bourbon Banana Bread recipe.
